Our Objectives and Working Methodology

We have organized our company according to some basic beliefs.

  • We believe that we can and must create a society which is in balance with the ecosystem which supports all humanity.  This society will give to and take from that ecosystem but not in a way which is parasitic.
  • Eliminating the systematic waste of resources is the most publicly acceptable and cheapest way to attack the crisis in the relationship between humans and the natural world.  Therefore, waste-elimination should be an early step toward correcting the nature of the relationship.
  • Because we are all complicit in the problem everyday in small and large ways we must all be involved in the solution.  That means that we must simultaneously come together as communities as well as engage those who have not yet understood.
  • The problem cannot be solved only through top-down regulation.  Instead we must change people's minds, choices and behaviours across a broad spectrum of contexts.  While it is often thought that this involves pushing people into doing something they would prefer not to, we believe that in many cases it is a more successful strategy to  make it simpler and easier to make the right choice, rather than brow-beating or “guilting” people into making sustainable choices.
  • The emergence of the internet creates a new and effective mechanism to simultaneously increase public awareness and engage the public, communities and other stake-holders in the project of sustainability
  • It is very difficult to develop complex interactive systems to be user-friendly and effective.  Evolution can achieve a better result faster than forward planning.   We generally create a functional basic design and then use feedback mechanisms to improve it.
  • One-off contract-based development is ineffective in achieving a successful result in situations like this.  The basic issue is that the world evolves and the system involved must evolve along with it. Long term partnerships are the final component necessary to the type of work we try to engage in.  We assume responsibility for the technical side of the partnership and take on some of the risk involved.  Our partners provide feedback on the system and how it needs to work in a local context.
  • Our services rest on providing a full-service Conceptualization, Design and Development team which works closely with our clients to accomplish web-related goals.
  • We integrate our team's experience and expertise with our client's team through a service-oriented rather than a product-focused approach, allowing us to find achievements together which meet real goals.  Our design-through-evolution method allows us to achieve continuous improvement in the systems which we provide.
  • iWasteNot Systems focuses on process over a pre-determined end-product and on mutual guidance in determining project requirements and specifications and uses a Systems Thinking-based holistic approach to design online systems.  Our focus is on moving the user to the satisfaction of a real-world goal as effectively and efficiently as possible.  Because we make public exchange systems, we have many years experience creating systems to educate and change the practices of the general public.
