At many schools, there’s a lot of surplus lab equipment and supplies available but most folks don’t know what’s available or how to access it.
At UAB Birmingham, they’ve changed that.
Their Green Marketplace (powered by ReCap) gives researchers a single place to find and request surplus items from across campus, making it easy to reuse what’s already there instead of defaulting to new purchases.
By reusing what the school has already purchased the program helped avoid over $172,000 in purchasing costs in just seven months. One researcher alone saved over $9,000 outfitting a new lab with reused equipment, freeing up budget to move ahead with a more expensive piece of equipment sooner than expected.
It’s a simple shift, but one that cuts waste, reduces costs, and helps research move faster.
